The rite
Tarpanam is the South Indian name for the ancestral libation of water mixed with sesame (ellu), offered to pitrus with Gayatri and pitru mantras. Hiranya Shradham is the gold-symbol shraddha performed when families want full pitru satisfaction without a large cooked feast. Telugu and Tamil households in Bengaluru often ask for both on the same tithi, especially during Aadi Amavasya or annual shraddha days. Pandit Mrityunjay Sharma leads the vidhi at your home in clear steps, adapting pronunciation to your family’s comfort while keeping Vedic order. Materials are listed on WhatsApp before the visit. Worship is conducted at the house; no fee or outcome is stated on this page.
Time at the house: Roughly 2–3 hours with hiranya shradham and multiple pitru names
Pandit Mrityunjay Sharma does this at the house in Bengaluru. The fee is not printed on this page. It is sent on WhatsApp with the material list.
Why families book it
Families book tarpanam with Hiranya Shradham when elders want the ellu–water offering done precisely, when priests are scarce on crowded pitru days, or when a compact shraddham is preferred after migration to Bengaluru. The combination helps younger members learn the sankalpa and names of pitrus without postponing the tithi.
This is sacred remembrance and dharma, not a promise that ancestral rituals will remove specific life obstacles. The pandit discusses whether your tradition uses separate pinda pradana or stops at tarpanam plus hiranya, so the session matches what your parents or in-laws expect.

Questions
Is tarpanam different from North Indian tarpana?
The core offering—til and water to pitrus—is the same idea. Names and some mantras differ by region. Pandit Sharma explains each step in English or Hindi as needed while following the procedure your family chooses.
Can we do only Hiranya Shradham without tarpanam?
Some families do. Usually tarpanam precedes or accompanies shradham on the tithi. Share your elders’ instruction; the pandit will not mix traditions without your approval.
Do both husband and wife need to sit for tarpanam?
Often the male kartā leads tarpanam; wives may join for sankalpa in some families. Clarify your custom when booking so seating and roles are planned.
What if we do not have a holy river?
Bengaluru homes use clean water with Ganga jal mixed in and darbha; river presence is symbolic through mantra. This is standard for city shradham.
Are non-vegetarian meals allowed that day?
Most families stay vegetarian and avoid alcohol until karyam ends. Follow what your elders prescribe; the pandit reminds you of common restrictions on WhatsApp.
How do we list pitrus if some names are unknown?
Offer to known grandparents and parents; for unknown forefathers, mantras include kole pitru groups. The priest guides generic offerings where names are missing.
Can this be on a weekend if tithi is mid-week?
Shraddha is ideally on the actual tithi. Some families shift with priest advice if absolutely necessary; discuss dates before confirming.
Does the site store our pitru details?
